Junior O'Brien |
Since the early days of the Kings County Baseball League, Junior has been a dedicated follower. In both recent and days gone by, Junior has been no stranger to the stands at the local ball fields. For Junior, it wasn't always about watching. He spent 36 years of his life caught up in the rough and tough game of baseball. He fondly recalls the days of his pitching and out-fielding for Morell. In those times, they went without the uniforms, but the spirit was still alive in their absence. The one thing that stuck out in his mind, were the rivals. Morell and Peakes had games that were packed with up to 1000-3000 on- lookers, shouting for strikes and calling for homeruns, among other things. The real surprise was not the number of people who showed up, but that the fans were

the bitter rivals, not the players. More went on outside the field than inside.
Junior is also active with the youth of recent years. He and his wife are known to sponsor players, and teams by volunteering their time to raise funds. Unfortunately, in his opinion, the spirit of the old times seems to have dwindled to just a game. He hopes that some day the new brand of players will bring back the old style of playing that Morell once boasted.
