Visions of the Future Campus

The image below illustrates the current, 1992 plan. This expressed vision of the campus of tomorrow is a modified reproduction of a map intended for use as figure 4A in "Carleton University land use development plan", by the department of physical plant. This plan can be compared with the initial approved master plan from 1954 (pages 19 and 29), and subsequent long-range schemes by the Architectural Associates (pages 22 and 26).

Current plans call for somewhat greater on-campus student accommodation, as was specified 30 to 38 years ago. Current proposed academic spaces also are somewhat greater than were called for 30 to 38 years ago.

In contrast, current master planning schemes designate far more space for indoor athletic facilities, parking, and other non-academic support areas such as alumni & conference facilities.
