THE HEART OF THE CITY

BUILDINGS ON
KING STREET EAST

Please Note:  In 1891, the building numbers along King Street changed.
What before were even numbers changed to odd, and the odd became even.

# TENANT
James Street to Hughson Street, North Side
This block is recognizable by the decorated facades of the Mills Building and the Right House.  Built near the turn of the century, the buildings contrast sharply with the simple style of the early 1840's Georgian Rowhouses and the simplicity of the 1950s Woolworth Store.

Hughson Street to John Street, North Side
The west half of this block was rebuilt during the twentieth century whereas the east half is at least 150 years old.  Kresge's is a good example of the 1930's Art Deco influence. The Arliss and Singer buildings built in the 1940s are also non-decorative.  The commercial rowhouses are the oldest in the area and reflect the simplicity of the 1930s.  Included in this set of rowhouses is #81-83 but appear to be separate as it was altered during the High Victorian Era.
