Taking Care of the Environment: Greenhills

Now that we know about some of the environmental concerns, let's take a closer look at the Greenhills Operation, one of the five coal mines in the Elk Valley.

The Greenhills mine site is full of wildlife and has wonderful water and forest resources. Greenhills annually produces over four million tonnes of coal, but at the same time works towards getting an ‘A’ for its environmental excellence. In order to do this, a lot of time, money and effort is spent on research, air, water, reclamation and environmental control.2

Let’s take a look at some of the issues that Greenhills might experience and learn how to fix them if we worked in a coal mine as an environmental technician.

One of the first things that we are going to do is check the air quality.
