The ancestors of the Big Island Native people in
habited the portion of the area covered by the Northwest Angle Treaty of 1873 - Treaty No.
3. The official establishment of the reserve lands was in July 1981. Big
Island was purchased from private landowners in 1984. The official name of the Big
Island First Nation is Saug-A-Gaw-Sing. The present population of Big Island is 61. |
