Long Lake No. 58 First Nation is within the boundaries of the territory described by the Robinson-Superior Treaty of 1850.  The original Reserve was located east and south of its present location because it was unsuitable for the installation of services.

After the James Bay Treaty of 1905 was signed,  the names of 65 members of the Long Lake Band were transferred to the annuity pay list for Treaty No. 9 which is now Long Lake No. 77, also known as Ginoogaming.
