Manitou Rapids is presently called Rainy River
First Nation. Manitou Rapids band members signed the Northwest Angle Treaty of 1873
- Treaty No. 3. The Indian Reserve was first surveyed in 1876 and was confirmed in
1915 by the Ontario government. The offical designation of the Indian Reserve is
Manitou Rapids I. R. No. 11. Rainy River First Nation is comprised of former band
members of Little Forks, Long Sault and Hungry Hill who surrendered their reserves for
settlement in 1915. |
