General description

  • Functions minimally in oral interchange within a clear predictable context related to immediate needs and within topics of immediate personal relevance.
  • Understands and uses a small number of words, simple learned phrases and short basic sentences of basic structure.
  • Asks a few simple questions and responds to simple, routine, predictable questions.
  • Understands simple commands in relation to the context.
  • Responds in isolated words or strings of two or three words, makes long pauses, sometimes repeats the person's words.
  • May still use first language at times.
