• Learner can communicate basic survival needs.
• Can ask and answer short, simple "yes/no" questions and "Wh" type questions within a clear, predictable context and within familiar topics of immediate personal relevance.
• Uses very limited everyday vocabulary, simple learned phrases and short sentences, some evidence of connected discourse.
• Comprehends key words only and formulates learned expression in simple, predictable conversations about basic needs and routine activities.
• Demonstrates comprehension of basic commands.
• Demonstrates strategies to check for understanding.
