The Poem

The Editor sat at his desk one morn, Writing of crowing and crops and corn; And Callow, the poet - do you know him? - Brought him a truly lovely poem!
It told in beautiful verse the tale Of a duckling poor who loved a snail - A snail who lived on a great high wall, Ever so high and ever so tall!
He never could reach her, though he tried, And so at last the duckling died. The Editor read it, was quite affected, And so the poem was not rejected.
And when it appeared the poem was read By little Miss Tabitha Purr, who said Its beautiful words caused her heart to throb - 'Twas enough to make a pussy cat sob.
