The Torn Frock

"Oh! lack-a-day!"
Cried little Betty Blue,
"I've torn my pinafore -
Whatever shall I do?" "My best pinafore! What will Mother say? -
Oh, Nip, you naughty dog, Why ever did we play!

"There's Cousin Willie waiting
For you and me to come:
I 'spect he's done his lessons,
And finished every sum;
"And when she sees my pinafore
What will Auntie say? -
Oh, Nip you naught dog,
Why ever did we play?"

"The reason why we played," said Nip,
"Is simple as can be-
Because you are a little girl,
And I'm a dog, you see.

"For dogs delight to bark and bite
As sure as they are born;
And little children's garments
Are intended to be torn!"
