Music is an integral part of Nova Scotia's culture. Nova Scotian music is rooted in its land, tradition, religion, and history. Indeed, Nova Scotia can best be defined by its music. It can not be labeled for it is as diverse and varied as the people who preform it. Many styles are prominent. Jazz, alternative, gospel, country, classical, and blues are but some of the varied styles one can find in this province.

Nova Scotia has always been known for its superior musicians. Local bands are receiving more and more international recognition, and at the same time, each community is fiercely proud of its local groups, regardless of outside popularity.
