CBSA advises travellers using the Pigeon River port of entry to plan their border crossing during busy fishing season

Pigeon River, Ontario, May 23, 2013 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is anticipating higher traffic volumes at the Pigeon River port of entry during the next three weekends as the busy fishing season in Northwestern Ontario continues, and would like to remind travellers to plan their border crossing to avoid delays.

"Now that the fishing season is underway, we would like to advise travellers to plan their crossing outside of peak traffic periods if possible," says Tracey Gagnon, Pigeon River's Acting Chief of Operations.

Peak traffic volumes are anticipated and border wait times may exceed 30 minutes between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the following dates:

• Friday, May 24, Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26;
• Friday, May 31, Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2; and
• Friday, June 7, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.

"We would also like to remind travellers that they cannot bring live bait into Canada without a permit and the importation of certain goods, including firearms, firewood and fireworks, is restricted or prohibited in Canada. To avoid the possibility of penalties, including seizure or prosecution, make sure you have the information you require before attempting to import these items into Canada," adds Chief Gagnon.
