The effect of prenatal and early childhood experiences on subsequent health, well-being, coping skills and competence is a powerful health determinant.

Children experience a phase of accelerated growth in the first five years of their lives. The education, care and attention they receive during this period can have a crucial impact on their future.

By understanding early childhood development, parents, service providers, and policy makers can better meet the social and emotional needs of Canada’s young children.

What CEECD does

  • Creates and disseminates up-to-date information on ECD
  • Works with federal departments to help promote awareness of early childhood development issues
  • Works with provinces and territories to develop effective services for young children and their families Works with international agencies on knowledge development to inform country-specific policy makers and planners
