PSYCHEALTH CENTRE - Winnipeg, ManitobaCompleted in 1992 as an addition to the Health Sciences Centre, the largest hospital complex in Manitoba, the PsycHealth Centre reflects the latest developments in psychiatric care. With a 110-bed facility linked to the Health Sciences complex by a service tunnel and a grade level pedway, the PsycHealth unit features three major design components: a three-storey in-patient wing, a four-storey clinic wing, and a four-storey common atrium. All three sections are designed to reflect their highly residential character, a grounding warmth which is therapeutically desirable for psychiatric care. In addition to its residential and care-giving functions, the Centre also includes research and education facilities. Light, as always, plays a central role in Gaboury's conception of the building. The tree-lined, four-storey atrium which is the anchoring point of the Centre, is suffused with sunlight and is landscaped to act as a visual relief and a physical rest area. * * * |
