Riel's
Return
Louis
Riel was banished in 1870 when he approved Scott Tomas' execution
for actions Riel felt were traitorous. Riel then moved to
Sun River, Montana with his wife and children where he worked
as a schoolteacher. In 1883 the Metis appointed three men
to get Riel. Gabriel Dumont, Moise Oulette and Michael Dumas
made the journey to Montana where they met with Riel, who
then decided that he would return with the men to Canada,
but only until the fall season.
