E

Elijah - Biblical figure who, at Passover, is believed to make an appearance at every Jewish family's seder table.

Erev - Hebrew term used to mean evening. Refers to the day before a holiday or the Sabbath. For example Saturday is the Sabbath, Erev Sabbath is Friday evening.

Eternal Light - Hangs in front of the Holy Ark which houses the Torahs in a synagogue. Represents God's immanence.

Etrog - Similar to a lemon, this fruit is used with the lulav during Sukkot services. According to some, it represents the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. Etrogs are held in special containers called Etrog holders.

Exodus - The second book of the Torah.

F

Four Questions - Recited by the youngest person at the Passover seder, and answered by the leader of the seder, the questions have to do with the reasoning behind many Passover traditions.

G

Get - Document (certificate) that makes a divorce official according to Jewish law.

G-d - Written to identify God, since writing the full word of God can be interpreted as taking the name of God in vain.

Gragger

Gragger - A noisemaker that is an integral part of the Purim celebration.
