   Albite
(NaAlSi3O8)
NS2530

Image: NS2530.jpg

Crystal system triclinic (a system of ideal geometric shapes that have three unequal lengths for a specific crystals axes).
Habit crystals can be prismatic or bladed with twinning present (twinning is a symmetrical intergrowth of 2 or more crystals).
Cleavage perfect (i.e. when it breaks along its specific atomically weakest edge, it breaks very cleanly).
Fracture uneven.
Hardness hard, 6-6.5
Specific Gravity 2.62
Color typically colorless, white or gray.
Luster transparent to translucent with a vitreous (or glassy) luster.
Streak white.
Distinguishing features the twinning that albite is known for creates typically easy to see striations on the crystals surface.
Uses an industrial mineral used in ceramics.
