Habit dipyramid crystals or rarely pseudo-octahedral; it can also be tabular.

Color black, honey yellow or sapphire blue.
Luster transparent to nearly opaque with an adamantine or metallic/adamantine luster.
Streak colorless, white or pale yellow.
Distinguishing features mainly found as an accessory mineral in igneous or metamorphic rocks; its habit and adamantine luster are typical.
Uses used as an ore for titanium.
