Habit massive, granular, botryoidal and sometimes fibrous or columnar; in crystal form as cubes, octahedrons and dodecahedrons.
Cleavage perfect.
Fracture subconchoidal to splintery.

Color extremely variable; it is completely colorless and transparent if pure; it can also be found as yellow, green, blue, pink, purple or black.
Luster transparent to translucent and vitreous.
Streak none.
Distinguishing features when exposed to ultraviolet rays it fluoresces strongly.
Uses used in the making of hydrofluoric acid, which is used in pottery; very clear crystals are used as spectrographic prisms.
