Roedde House Field Trip
Objectives
- To identify the features of a Queen Anne style of house.
- To study a particular style of architecture by sketching it.
- To analyze the social and status aspects of Roedde House based on layout, size of rooms,
number of windows, furnishings, etc..
- To be exposed to more of the history of the West End and early Vancouver.
Description
On the field trip to Roedde House, one third of the class will tour the inside of the
house, one third will tour Barclay Heritage Square, and one third will begin to look at
the Queen Anne Revival style of Roedde House.
This group of students will try an accurate, detailed sketch of Roedde House or may
want to use one of the outlined views of the house (in the Appendix) and add the detail.
Include information from page 45.
This is also a wonderful opportunity for students to compare blueprints of Roedde House
with the actual building.
Materials Needed
- paper or line drawings of Roedde House
- pencils/erasers
- rulers
- clipboards
- scaled-down blueprints
