Articling Opportunities with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada

As a professional career organization, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) provides articling students with the opportunity to develop the essential knowledge, skills and experience for practicing law through the Department of Justice’s Legal Excellence Program. As an articling student in the Program, you will draw on the experience and expertise of an assigned mentor who will provide you with professional guidance and support.

You will benefit from formal training and development opportunities that will enhance your advocacy skills, introduce you to issues facing federal prosecutors and give you an overview of the organization's array of challenging legal work. In addition to the unique learning and professional development opportunities, your salary will be paid during the articling term as well as during the Bar Admission Course*.

Articling Positions with PPSC

Articling students actively participate in the conduct of litigation. You will enjoy the opportunity to work on high-profile cases and in high-pressure situations in the interest of the Canadian public. You may:

  • under supervision, handle docket court and summary conviction trials and sentencings usually involving possession of narcotics;
  • assist federal prosecutors in more complex matters in the form of witness interviews, preparation of factums and general trial preparation; and
  • conduct legal research and participate in writing legal opinions.

Compensation

Articling students are subject to the regulations and benefits governing term employees of the Government of Canada. This includes a minimum of three weeks paid vacation leave annually, the availability of flexible work arrangements, ongoing professional development opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package.

Locations

PPSC employs many articling students across the country in common and civil law. PPSC operates in 11 regions and five area offices across Canada with its headquarters located in Ottawa.
