Simon Fraser and the Roller-Coaster River

Early Life

Simon Fraser was born in Mapletown, Hoosick Township, New York, into a Scottish family. His father died in the American War of Independence and Fraser moved to Canada in 1784. In 1792, he was apprenticed to the North West Company. By 1802 he was a partner.
