Simon Fraser and the Roller-Coaster River

First Voyage
1805 - 1808

The North West Company wanted to find an easy route to the Pacific Coast. Alexander Mackenzie had found a route in 1793 but it was too difficult to be useful.

Fraser started his expedition in 1805. Posts, or small forts, were built along the way as they went over Mackenzie's route. During the winter, Fraser sent a first shipment of animal furs back to Dunvegan, Alberta.
