Robert McClure and the Secret of the Northwest Passage
After
McClure was knighted and promoted to
Captain. He and his crew were given 10 000
pounds for their discovery. They had not navigated the passage, for they had travelled a great distance by sledge. It was not until 1906 that Roald Amundsen and his crew successfully navigated the whole of the Northwest Passage.
Greedy or Just Ungrateful?
When McClure and his crew were awarded the £10 000 for finding the Northwest Passage, McClure refused to share the money with the crew that had rescued them, saying that he hadn't really needed the help.
