Internet Connectivity in Public Libraries

These statistics on the percentage of public libraries connected to the Internet in each province were compiled in June, 1997. Comparisons with previous statistics dating from October 1996 are given in order to illustrate growth in connectivity.

  • In British Columbia 70% of public libraries are connected, compared to 65% in October 1996.
  • In Alberta 30% of public libraries are connected, unchanged since October 1996.
  • In Saskatchewan 25% of public libraries are connected, compared to 21% in October 1996.
  • In Manitoba 30% of public libraries are connected, compared to 27% in October 1996.
  • In Ontario 35% of public libraries are connected, compared to 25% in October 1996.
  • In Quebec 25% of public libraries are connected, compared to 10% in October 1996.
  • In New Brunswick 30% of public libraries are connected, compared to 14% in October 1996.
  • In Nova Scotia 100% of public libraries are connected, unchanged since October 1996.
  • In Prince Edward Island 100% of public libraries are connected, compared to 27% in October 1996.
  • In Newfoundland 55% of public libraries are connected, compared to 30% in October 1996.
  • In Yukon 40% of public libraries are connected, compared to 30% in October 1996
  • In the Northwest Territories 5% of public libraries are connected to the Internet, unchanged since October 1996.
