  • August 2000 LibraryNet, along with its provincial and territorial partners, launched their first On-Line connectivity survey of public libraries across Canada.

  • The survey was completed November 11, 2000.

  • Overall, 444 libraries representing 1,579 branches responded to the survey.

  • The respondents (questionnaires submitted) breakdown as follows:

    • 43.4% (207 branches) are rural;
    • 12.6% (59 branches) are remote; and
    • 3.4% (372 branches) are in urban locations*

    * Urban libraries are defined as those serving serving populations of 50 000+, Rural libraries are those serving 1,000 to 9,999, while remote libraries as those serving populations under 1,000.
