1847 - Tradition maintains that a man named Burgess was the first permanent settler, who deserted the ship "Royal Gazette" at Crocker’s Cove.
1869 – The families of Charles Burgess and John Pollett are listed as residents.
1874 – The population consistsof 31 residents.
1880 – A Small school begins operation.
1889 – Family names listed include: Burgess, Barrett, Drover, Harmun, Jackson, Legge, Pottle and Soper.
1911 – Twenty-one men of a total population of 124 depend on the lumber woods as their main source of income. A Methodist Chapel is built.
1994 – St. George
the Martyr Anglican Church and St. Andrews Anglican Church served Whiteway.
Children attend a regional highschool in Greens Harbour. Family
names include: Brown, Burgess, George, Harnum, Jackson, Legge and Pottle.
