New Harbour is located at the bottom of Trinity Bay, on the south side. It was first settled in the 1740's and served as a source of lumber and firs for the merchants of Trinity. The first two settlers were named Thorne and Hilliar.

During the 1760's and 1770's there were references to New Harbour in the diaries of Trinity-based merchant Benjamin Lester.

Family names include Bishop, George, Hefford, Hillier, Thorne, Pollett, and Woodman. Later in years a George Cranford came there as a teacher, establishing that family name in the community. Other well known families first recorded in the 1800's were Smith, Williams, and Woodman.
