Ochre Pit Cove

A fishing community located on the Conception Bay Shore. A large deposit of ochre gives the cove its name.

1762 - First record of settlement was a petition by John Keating, who was
probably a fishing servant.

1774 - Michael Lane mapped two stages in Ochre Pit Cove.

1776 - Two residents were John Carnell and William Skinner.

1800 (Prior) - Other family names in community included Halfyard, Parsons and Cosh (Coish).

1800's (early) - Families of Gillingham, Rose and Pennell arrived.

1992 - Most of all the earlier family names still were present in Ochre Pit Cove.
