Located on the shore of a pond just inland from Spaniard's Bay is Tilton. Temporary shelters (or tilts) built and used during the winter months gave rise to the name Tilt Town, which was eventually called Tilton. Tilton was inaccessible during the summer months until the construction of a road in the 1840's.
