TEACHER'S CHOICE:
HOUSE TREASURE ACTIVITY

No Two Alike

This is the full version of the activity lesson plan from Window to the Past: The Roedde House Curriculum by Kathryn Reeder and Vickie Jensen.

(Go to on-line activity) - (Go to lesson plan index)

Materials Needed:

  • Enough pencils for each member of the class to have one to describe (Note: this activity could also be done with rulers, crayons, erasers, etc.)

  • Paper on which to write descriptions

Objectives:

  • To transfer accurate observation skills used in drawing objects to precise verbal descriptions

  • To classify details that are similar and different about a category of objects (i.e., pencils)

  • To expand descriptive vocabulary

Activity description:

Students can work in groups of 4-5; each person is given a pencil to observe and describe with precise words. When the descriptions are completed, the group's pencils are mixed together and the descriptions each read out. If the verbal description contains sufficient detail, members should be able to target the exact pencil being described.
