From the early beginning, the Ladies' Auxiliary busied themselves preparing meals and
lunches to raise funds for the purchase of kitchen equipment and dishes. The first set of
dishes was obtained with store coupons, and utensils were procured by members' donations
through roll calls.
In order to cater to banquets and special functions, it was necessary to
borrow dishes from Arsenault & Gaudet store and neighboring schools.
After a small Legion home was built in 1964, members of the Ladies'
Auxiliary used to serve lunches from a hot plate in order to raise money to equip the new
kitchen.
Apart from catering to banquets and other Legion-sponsored activities, the
Ladies' Auxiliary have rendered tremendous services to the Legion and the community at
large. Their annual donation to the Legion on Remembrance Day is a well-appreciated
gesture on their part as well as a financial boost to the Legion's overall operations.
Charitable donations to many worthwhile organizations are ample proof of their dedication
to the welfare of all citizens in need of their help. Examples of donations include: Red
Cross Swimming courses, Heart and Cancer Funds, Figure Skating Club, Evangeline
Kindergarten, flowers to the sick and elderly and to the Mother-of-the-year.
The Ladies' Auxiliary also furnish school prizes and bursaries. The group
has also adopted a child from Haiti.
On November 27, 1982 the Ladies' Auxiliary celebrated their 25th
anniversary with special guests: Mrs. Marjorie Harkness and Mrs. Marjorie Wylie, who were
both present at the signing of the chapter in 1957.
As mentioned in the book: "By the Old Mill Stream", on March 20,
1983 the Ladies' Auxiliary catered to a banquet for the "Old Timers of Montreal
Hockey Team", after they had played a game of hockey at the Evangeline Recreational
Centre against the Evangeline All-Stars. Acadian dishes were served. The Montreal team
