War Veterans Club of Branch #17 Wellington, P.E.I
of the Royal Canadian Legion

For a number of years, several members of the Legion felt a need for an organization of veterans only, in order to meet and discuss problems relating directly to veterans. It was on October 22, 1981 that the first meeting was held where regulations were adopted that would be the guidelines for the Club.

It was decided:

a) that a board of directors be composed of a president, vice-president, a secretary-treasurer, and  4 directors elected yearly at the annual meeting.

b) that membership be open to war veterans and their wives, husbands, widows, and widowers of veterans.

c) that membership fees will be $2.00 per year.

d) that profane or abusive language will not be tolerated.

e) that a member will be allowed to take a war veteran and escort to the club room.

f) that the Club will help the Legion Branch number 17 financially and otherwise.

g) that the board of directors will be empowered to deal with anyone violating these regulations.

A room on the second floor of the legion building was designated as the veterans' room. A New Horizons project assisted in its furnishings. Meetings are held monthly at which discussion takes place on entertainment, education and recreation trips, welfare of veterans, as well as ways of assisting the legion branch.

The club has held two amateur concerts, many fun nights proceeded by a pot luck supper. In 1983, a trip to Caraquet to visit Acadian Village was made and in 1985 to Kings Landings, both in New Brunswick.

In 1982, the Club decided to proceed with a project of gathering information on veterans of the first and second world war and the Korean Conflict of the area served by Wellington Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. The members are appreciative of public support in this project. The first president of the Veterans' Club was the late Edward T. Arsenault.

The present board of directors is as follows:

Vice-president: Tilmon J. Arsenault
Secretary-Treasurer: Fidèle C. Gallant
