Extension Activity 3

Make a poster about your favourite explorer. You can use any technique that you want. Some suggestions:

  • Create a collage with items cut from magazines or taken from the Passageways website
  • Make an overhead projection from a picture, and trace it onto paper
  • Use an image projected from PowerPoint (or a similar program) and trace
  • Draw freehand

However you design the poster, remember that the most important thing is the message -- it shouldn't be overwhelmed by graphics or ruined by sloppy work. Make sure that your poster tells the important facts about your explorer:

  • Full name
  • When they were born and died
  • Where they went
  • What they discovered
  • What dangers they faced

Some things can be done with pictures. For example, you could draw their transportation or the dangers they faced.

If your teacher marks your poster, it will be marked using the following rubric:
