Press Release

It is a good idea to send a press release to local newspapers, community papers, email lists and radio stations to let people know about your program and your fundraiser! This is a also a good way to raise awareness about the issue that you are working for and let people know how they can get involved!

Make sure to send it out at least a week before the event. Follow up by calling the station or the paper and reminding them about the event. You may even want to resend the press release the day before the event and make those follow-up calls one more time. The follow-up calls are very important!

Remember to include:

  • A short but compelling message, make it catchy!
  • Your contact information
  • The date and time of the event
  • A brief description of the event
  • How people can get involved
  • A description of who the organization is or the purpose of the event
  • You may also want to include a motivational quote from someone in your group
