1996 About 121 km from St. John's, located on the southeast side of Trinity Bay, about half way between Whiteway and Islington. Originally known as Shoal Harbour, then Shoal Bay, it eventually was renamed in honour of Newfoundland Governor and composer of the Ode to Newfoundland, Sir Cavendish Boyle. The inshore fishery, agriculture, lumbering, and the Labrador fishery was the main source of employment in Cavendish. Cavendish has always relied upon nearby communities (Heart's Delight and Green's Harbour) for services and supplies. |
