" Discover the Heritage of the Baccalieu Trail "
Located on the West Side of Conception Bay, south of Bay Robert's is the community of Clarke's Beach. Many of the earliest settlers came from Bareneed and Port de Grave when the Labrador fishery became prominent Many of Clarke's Beach settlers engaged in the Labrador fishery, but Clarke's Beach never had an inshore fishery. Merchants at Cupids, Brigus, or Bay Robert's usually supplied the fishermen of Clarke's Beach with their berths. During the nineteenth century the Church of England was a major religious denomination in Clarke's Beach, but around 1880 the Reformed Episcopalian Church was established. In 1891, this denomination had 115 members, but in 1901 there was only 1 listed. Some joined the Salvation Army while others became Methodists.
