Green's Harbour

Population: 760 (1996)
785 (1981)

Located south of Heart's Delight / Islington, Trinity Bay and situated around a horseshoe-shaped bay is the fishing community of Green's Harbour. Local tradition tells that the community was named for the numerous trees in the area which first attracted settlers. Some of the earliest names mentioned include John March, John Day, Jim Green and William Brace.

Census records indicated that Green's Harbour was still receiving new immigrants relatively late into the 19th century while older settlements, (example: Heart's Content), reported few or none.

Early occupations included inshore fishery, the Labrador fishery, small-scale agriculture, and later, logging and sawmilling. Some of the Society's operating in Green' Harbour included The Orange Lodge and the Society of United Fishermen.
