New Chelsea

Located 4km northeast of Hant's Harbour is the fishing community of New Chelsea. New Chelsea got its name from residents who suggested it who had relatives living in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Before 1911, New Chelsea was known as Seal Cove. Earliest settlers were members of the Church of England.

Population growth between 1836 - 1921 was based on the economy of the inshore fishery supplemented by sawmilling on Big Brook, and also logging.
