about 6 km northeast of Carbonear. The open cove has a long, sandy
beach, and there has been recent renovations done to the area making
it a beautiful place to visit. In recent years, gazabo's, picnic tables, annual festivals, and a hiking trail with a spectacular view have made "the sands" (local nick name) a beautiful historic beach. Agriculture and the shore fishery were the main community activities. A
nearby pond offers shelter in bad weather for small boats. The site
of an abandoned neighbourhood known as "Marshall's Folly"
is located in the form of a meadow the outskirts of the cove.
