The Celtic Way The CDEI

The Inverness Economic Development Committee (CDEI)
Inverness's Economic Development Committee was created in 1995. Its mission is to promote the economic, social and cultural development of the Inverness municipality. It is the second organization of its kind to gather Inverness citizens and promote the development of this small municipality of less than 1000 people.

The first organization was officially founded in 1986 and was called the Touristic Corporation of Inverness. This committee aimed to support the tourist development in Inverness, emphasizing its patrimonial resources and encouraging the development of culture and leisure for the citizens. Thanks to this organization, we now have a Bronze Museum, located in the old Court House. This Museum allows the expositions of sculptures created by several famous artists as well as local artists. Inverness is now proud to be recognized as an artist's village and as a high place of bronze, being the only place in Quebec to have bronze foundries. In 1987 the Tourist Corporation published a bilingual reference book on Inverness's history; this very book was a great reference for our research leading to the circuit of the Celtic Way.

The CDEI thus takes, to some extent, the relay of the Touristic Corporation, and decided, in 1999, to emphasize on the patrimonial attractions of the municipality, and to continue the historical research begun by the Corporation. This project was going to lead to the creation of the Celtic Way.
