Anne often integrated elements of rural life, such as wheelbarrows, ploughs and hay wagons into her landscapes. Like other proponents of a Canadian style of painting at the time, she represented Canada as uninhabited landscape. Her scenes of ploughed fields and farm equipment suggested an ideal rural land unspoiled by the influence of modern life. These paintings are among her most recognized work.
