The still life is a classic theme in art, but one that may seem
to be at odds with Anne Savage's adventurous exploration and representation
of the Canadian landscape. In fact, there are few examples of
still life in her early career. When she did begin to paint such
things as flower arrangements in her later life, they were often
stylistic experiments in which she explored new techniques.
