Inter-agency collaboration

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) are federal granting agencies that support research, research training and innovation in Canadian postsecondary institutions.

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is a federally funded organization that enables this research, training and innovation through investments in state-of-the-art infrastructure. Working in close collaboration, CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, and CFI invest in talented people, research excellence and infrastructure, and facilitate knowledge translation and mobilization to help foster a culture of social and commercial innovation.

These organizations are committed to strengthening their joint efforts in order to address the knowledge, people and entrepreneurial advantages identified in the federal government’s science and technology strategy, Mobilizing Science and Technology to Canada's Advantage.

Their interactions include joint oversight mechanisms, policies, and funding programs which are reviewed and evaluated on an ongoing basis with the goal of maximizing the benefit to the research community and to Canadians.
