Russell's Point
Archaeological Dig Site at Russell's Point
Russell's Point (Sandy Point) is a Beothuk Indian camp located on Dildo Pond in Blaketown, Trinity Bay. It is believed to be the site visited by John Guy on October 26, 1612 and described by him in his journal. Excavations were conducted at the site over a four year period between 1994 and 1997 and indicate that the site was a fall and winter base camp occupied by the Beothuk and their prehistoric ancestors from circa AD 1000 to circa AD 1650.
