Medicine Wheel
The Drum
Medicine Wheel

This symbol is used by every Tribe in the world. It is sacred. One of the many meanings of the drum is as follows:

The Wood:  Our dwellings and many of our tools and containers are made from wood.  We use wood in the frame of the drum to give thanks to the spirit which dwells in the trees.

The Hide:  From animals we are clothed and provided with food which is sacred.  In using the hide to cover the frame of the drum, the animal spirit joins ours to praise the Creator.

The Beat: The beat is our heart beat. Each time you hear the drum, always remember your sorrows and joys. It reminds us of our awareness to all creation. For without Mother Earth, animals, trees and humans we cannot survive. Each beat of the drum, along with our dances and songs, are prayers to the Creator.
