Gnr. Bernard S. Gallant
GNR. BERNARD S. GALLANT

Gnr. Bernard S. Gallant, son of Linus Gallant and Agnes MacDonald, enlisted in the Canadian Army in April, 1942. He served in the artillery in Canada and Newfoundland.

He was discharged in May, 1946.

Tpr. Camille Joseph Gallant, son of Ozile and Marie Anne Gallant, enlisted on July 19, 1940 and served in Canada with the 5th Armoured Regiment. He was discharged August 7, 1941 for medical reasons.

PTE. CHARLES GALLANT

Pte. Charles Gallant, son of Isidore and Ursule Gallant, served in the "Regiment de la Chaudière" during World War II.

Pte. Toussaint Clétus Gallant, son of Mr. & Mrs. Sylvain Gallant, enlisted on January 29, 1943.

After his military training in Charlottetown, Sherbrooke, Qué.; Sussex, N.B. and Debert, N. S., he went overseas in 1944 serving with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders.

He was discharged on February 21, 1946.

Seaman Cyril J. Gallant
SEAMAN CYRIL J. GALLANT


Seaman Cyril J. Gallant, son of Gilbert Gallant and Rose Haché, enlisted in the Canadian Navy on June 19, 1941. He served on many ships while in the Navy, in Canadian and other waters. Part of his service was with combined operations, landing troops ashore with Landing Craft Assault and Landing Craft Mechanized. One night, out of Gibraltar, after having landed troops in Italy, his ship was torpedoed; he managed to survive by holding on to a dangling rope before being rescued by a Polish Destroyer; 17 Canadian seamen lost their lives in this attack.


He was discharged in May, 1946, re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, went to Korea and was discharged after 25 years service December 9, 1971.

He received the following medals: 1939-1945 Star; Italy Star; France/Germany Star; Defence Medal; C. V. S.M. with Clasp; War Medal 1939-1945; Korean Medal, United Nations Medal.

Airman Cyril J. Gallant, son of Joseph Octave and Estelle Gallant, enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps on July 29, 1942 and served until his discharge on September 5, 1945.

Pte. Cyril J. Gallant, son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry S. Gallant, enlisted in the P.E.I. Highlanders on March 13, 1941 and served in Dartmouth, Halifax, N.S., Quebec, and Newfoundland.

He was discharged in April, 1943.

Fusilier John Dolor Gallant, son of Joseph B. Gallant and Marie Arsenault, enlisted in the Canadian Army in Halifax on July 11, 1940.

He served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers in Canada and the United Kingdom.

He was discharged on August 25, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.

Cpl. J. Calixte Donat Gallant
J. CALIXTE DONAT GALLANT


Cpl. J. Calixte Donat Gallant, son of Cyrus P. Gallant and Edna Arsenault, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Summerside in 1940.

He served in Canada and Newfoundland during the Second World War.

Re-enlisting in 1948 as an aeroengine technician, he was posted to Chatham, N.B. and in Whitehorse, Yukon, where he participated in Exercise "Sweetbriar". He was also posted to Odihon, England for 11 months as well as Chatham, N.B. and Greenwood, N.S.


In 1953, he was sent to Keflavik, Iceland in a Lancaster and was killed on the return trip, February 1, 1953.


Pte. Dorice Gallant, son of Thomas and Lucie Anne Gallant, enlisted in the army on June 10, 1944.

He served with the Black Watch and Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Canada, England, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

At the end of the war, he stayed with the occupation force until July, 1945.

He was discharged February 7, 1947.
