A/SMN. JOSEPH F. GAUDET


A/Smn. Joseph F. Gaudet, son of Clovis Gaudet and Jacqueline Arsenault, joined the navy on November 1, 1940 at H.M.C.S. Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown.

He served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve November 4 to November 20, 1940; H.M.C.S. Stadacona, basic training November 21, 1940 to March 31, 1941; H.M.C.S. Chaleur, Québec City (harbour craft duties St. Lawrence River), April 1, 1941 to January 13, 1942; H.M.C.S. Shelburne GVII (Gate vessel duties to prevent submarines from entering Canadian ports), January 14, 1942 to June, 1945.

He was discharged on June 26, 1945.

L.A.C. John Leonard Gaudet, son of Edmond and Délima Gaudet, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in December, 1939.

He did his training at Toronto Training Depot and St. Thomas Pilot and Gunnery Training School. He was killed in a car accident in St.Thomas, Ontario June 30, 1940.

FL. LESTER P. GAUDET


Fl. Lester P. Gaudet, son of Wilfred and Fabiola Gaudet, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on May 9, 1940. He began his training in the ground crew and was remustered to air crew in the spring of 1942.

He graduated as a pilot in March, 1943 at St.Hubert, Québec. After taking a General Reconnaissance course at Summerside Air Base, he proceeded overseas in June, 1943.

He served in England for two years before returning to Canada for his discharge in September, 1945 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant.


Pte. Joseph Marc Gaudet, son of Clovis Gaudet and Jacqueline Arsenault, enlisted in the army on December 17, 1942.

After training in Charlottetown and Aldershot, N.S., he embarked for England. He joined the 48th Highlanders in the Italian campaign at Ortona. He recalls spending Christmas day 1943 in the trenches with chocolate raisins only for his Christmas dinner. He fought in Ortona, in Northern Italy and was wounded in December, 1944.

He was discharged on April 6, 1946.

Pte. Winceslaus Gaudet
PTE. WINCESLAUS GAUDET

Pte. Winceslaus Gaudet, son of Edmond and Délima Gaudet, enlisted in the Canadian Army on April 20, 1940.

He served with the P.E.I. Highlanders in Charlottetown, Halifax, Valcartier, Qué. and Gander, Nfld. where he received a serious injury, resulting in his discharge from the service on October 15, 1944.

Pte. Raymond Laughlin Gillis, son of Mr. & Mrs. Archibald Gillis, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers on January 21, 1940 and was discharged on December 10, 1940.

Cpl. Sydney Goodwin
CPL. SYDNEY GOODWIN

Cpl. Sydney Goodwin, son of John Goodwin and Mary Ellen MacNeil, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 27, 1941.

He served in Canada for 4½ years, serving 26 months in Gander, Torbay, Montreal and Trenton, Ont.

He was discharged on December 17, 1945.


Pte. Raymond J. Hachy, son of Henri and Mary Hachy, enlisted in the P.E.I. Highlanders early in September, 1939. He served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in Newfoundland, England, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

Medals and decorations: 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France/Germany Star, 1939-1945 War Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Defence Medal.

He was discharged on August 24, 1945.

Gnr. Clarence J. Hashie
GNR. CLARENCE J. HASHIE

Gnr. Clarence J. Hashie, son of Austin Hashie and Anne Gallant, enlisted in the army on May 15, 1942 with the 23rd Regiment 24 Anti-Aircraft.

He did his training at Aldershot, N.S., was posted in Sydney, N.S. for two years, then in St. John's, Newfoundland for two years as a gunner.

He was discharged in Halifax on January 25, 1946.

Gnr. Edward LaRose, son of Edward Joseph LaRose and Lucille Arsenault, enlisted in Charlottetown in 1941.

He served with the 105th Heavy Artillery in Gaspé, Québec and Shelbourne, N.S.

He was medically discharged in 1944.
