MAPPING EARLY VANCOUVER
False Creek

Return to Mapping section

False Creek was very important to the growth of Vancouver. In the early years of the city there were few roads; most forms of transport relied on water.

Industries were clustered along False Creek and Burrard Inlet in order to take advantage of easy water access.

In the 1880's the Canadian Pacific Railway came to town and the City Council of Vancouver persuaded them to build the terminal on the north side of False Creek. Probably, they did this in order to promote the area as an industrial area. (Vogel and Wyse, 1993)
